To convert to a basic disk, you delete all partitions on the drive and recreate/format with the problem drive connected, it has nothing to do with basic or dynamic; it is a hardware problem....

Want to go back to a "basic" hard disk, with the 100MB "system reserved" DISK0 (with no drive letter will have to convert the disk back to Basic from Dynamic to correct this issue.

If a dynamic volume did not have a drive....
Dynamic volumes retain the drive letter they had on the previous computer.
To another computer, basic volumes receive the next available drive letter on that computer.
