When my cows were grazing on 100% grass forage (estrella africana) with appx 15lb/day grain concentrate, I was getting 16lts/cow-day average milk production. The grain is a blend of primarily corn & soy with some citrus pulp and rice pulp (not hulls)....

A few observations/suggestions/questions.
That pastures their cows on bermuda grass (which is basically the same as estrella africana with Tifton 44 Bermuda grass on a 7 to 10 day rotation.

Alfalfa is extremely expensive here, so we don't use it, we use Orchard or Grass hay, and I buy $25.00....
Each in the hay.
Warm season grasses like Bermuda, Switchgrass, Yellow Bluestem, Buffalo Grass and Canary Grass.
