This might sound crazy but with QuickTime X and older QuickTimes that support timeline... .
It has 3 versions that allow you to choose how many features you want and it provides a wide range of cameras that it supports.
I'd recommend iStopMotion 2.

If you do not need to consider obstacles, use a single 180 degree fish-eye lens mounted on one of the walls .

You could try looking at how the FPS camera is implemented in Irrlicht or you could even use worked like a charm :)
