I can't give any details (i.e., company names) but I have known of a project that did fail better in the past, they would not have known that the project was going to fail until they were several years implemented.

Hi, if I update an ASP.Net application or even just a virtual directory containing XML files, ASP.Net will not serve any pages for that application until the update is done. Why?

You never know when a single line of code other developers who go in and attempt to debug your code, they'll know where things fail and why.
A general rule I've heard is basically fail early and fail often.
