So I was installing questionable operating system onto my EEE pc and it required me to downgrade the BIOS which I really am not an expert at. I used a patch and it appeared to work.
Now, I'm paranoid about the downgrade because, honestly, I have no idea...

If you want to use some 'experimental' 3rd party BIOS you do this at your own risk and you'll void the warranty of guides and tips.
Applying an official BIOS from the ASUS support website is perfectly safe.

Asrock x58 extreme motherboard 1366 ocz 6gb ddr3 kit OCZ3G1600LV6GK intel core i7 920 win7 64bit pro i plug it all together, i get 4gb in bios...
all dims are seated properly, in proper slots. for the asrock its a1,b1,c1.
bios shows a1,b1 jsut fine...

If nothing else works, consider.
If supported, try underclocking the memory.
Check BIOS settings.
Is it supposed to operate 6gb total? Is it running the latest BIOS version? Check the manual and specs.

There was some efforts in that direction years ago, like the Award BIOS Editor .

After about 10 minutes, the BIOS will be reset...
BIOS resets allow you to change a jumper setting, but I've never seen that done on a notebook to the CMOS BIOS (according to the service manual p59, it's quite easy).

Put your BIOS your recovery BIOS working or it will say something like "bad bios"...
Pay attention to what card was in what slot.

You can use a IP KVM switch with 'BIOS level access' (not exactly cheap though) and access the BIOS 'remotely' from another machine and take 'proper' screenshots there.
Of something that happens way before you control the computer .

VirtualBox sets the BIOS serial number of every VM instance to 0. It seems to be possible to change some BIOS settings, but I haven't seen anything that directly references the serial number.
Can anyone suggest a way to do this?

I just upgraded ram from 1 gb to 2 gb. The system won't see the 2 gb, so I learned that I need to update the BIOS. Where is this located?

It can be updated manufacturer's website and grab it from the BIOS update section.
