It's basically one app that is installed on multiple PC's, each install maintaining it's own database which is sync'd with other's as & when they are up (connected to the same network) at the same time.
I've tested this using simple socket connections...

Well, here I am 2 mins to 5pm and no Kelly Comms arrival/call/email at all for a 1pm to 5pm slot.
Tried ringing their number to confirm if/when and a human picks the phone up and slams it back on the hook. Tried a 141 prefix and they don't even answer...

Are you using shielded twisted pair? 485 is by design noise resistant, here I'm assuming that you are operating... .
I do recommend talking to the Cimscan people.
I doubt seriously that the problem is with XP or your computer port .
