Apparently, latest Firefox versions stores its bookmarks in a file called 'places.sqlite'. Like a browser can import the bookmarks from another browser, I would want to import the bookmarks to a file, but I need to know what would you need to do it?

I use it to keep my bookmarks and cached passwords on Firefox on several computers designed for a Python ....
The SyncPlaces Firefox extension, some kind of successor of the old Bookmarks Synchronizer which is no longer maintained.

I updated my computer from Windows XP to Windows 7. It creates a folder called windows.old, but I am unable to locate the old Firefox bookmarks profile. Where can I locate this or was it deleted in the upgrade?

Firefox 3 now stores bookmarks in a Sqlite file called profiles.sqlite.
This file is locked while Firefox 3 is running.
I know that there are backup files, but they are old (only written when FF exits).
I do not want the user to have to install a plug...

Assuming we're talking about Firefox 3 or better, the bookmarks are kept in a SQLite file...?
I don't know about all the features you've mentioned but "Organize bookmars" option in the Bookmarks.

Every once in a while I delete a bookmark in Firefox which turns out to be needed later. Or I simply click "Delete" by mistake.
Is there a addon or built-in config/hack/whatever for Firefox which moves deleted bookmarks to some kind of "recycle bin" so...

Restore Old Bookmarks...' Select a previous bookmark set from the list of dates Click 'View' and you'll previous bookmarks or bookmark sets.

I have a user base that is forced to use IE 7. I have created a web site that will be getting a new URL. Is there a way to force a bookmark to update to point to the new URL when a user hits the old site via a bookmark in IE?

Your best bet is to include a message on the ....
It also fails gracefully for noncompatible browsers, which is nice .
However an existing bookmark.
No - there's no way to forcibly update people's bookmarks, and that is a Good Thing™.

My hard drive crashed a few days ago. I just got a new hard drive and am working off of it now. Assuming I can get all of the data off of the old hard drive, how can I get my old Chrome bookmarks back? Which files do I need to transfer from the old crashed...

I did just that and my bookmarks still do not show up.
Someone told my to copy 'bookmark.bak' file from my old hard drive to my new hard drive.
I have the exact same question.

I was hopeful that the suggestion....
I used the suggestion of reorder by title it.
Especially the ones on the bookmark bar.
If no joy, disable bookmarks.
Change the order of bookmarks there.
Go to wrench icon > Bookmark manager.
