Note that I don't use the MAC side at all.. very rare to go to Mac OS, but it all runs fine.
-note when in MAC OS I can see the bootcamp partition but not get to the win7 files

so decided to just risk it and went straight ahead with resizing the boot camp....
Vesposit's guide in resizing my boot camp partition, and nearly had a heart attack lol.

So I have carefully read Josh's answers on question 35108, Upgrade to Snow Leopard Without a CD Drive
But when I am in Disk Utility, it says "This disk contains the startup volume and can't be partitioned".
Does this mean I am doomed to Mac OS X 10.4 ...

You can then create to a disk image, and then ....
If it does not, live resizing will not work.
Still do it from the command line (10.4.6 or newer) or by using Boot Camp (if you still have disk0s0 say GUID_partition_scheme.

Everything works now but the current active partition is 4, which I want to format. If I select any other drive to be active, Vista won't boot.

Yeah, VMWare is nice.
Daily, and I have to question why you aren't interested in Boot Camp.

Chris right as....
I suspect Disk Utility will let you clone a Boot Camp partition to
another disk, and then you can use SuperDuper to do the rest.
They don't work on
other partition types like Boot Camp.

I'm still on 1.6 due to some of the problems I've heard with Lion.. Can anyone give me any ideas what to expect? I'm a web designer so I work with programs like photoshop pretty often.

Repartitioning won't erase any data....
Install Lion on the new partition and boot to the installed Lion.
Also if you have more than 1 boot camp partition or bitlocker setup, it might break those partitions.

itself doesn't do the partition creation/deletion/....
Boot Camp creates a separate partition on your hard disk for Windows
and provides that already exist on your system (i.e.
about the case.
