Is a USB Drive and Card Reader + Micro SD same? I need to boot in from a USB device for a new OS. So need a pen drive for that. Do you know if I can buy a Card Reader (supporting SD etc) an use that to boot?

The solution is to use a PCMCIA to SD adapter and put the card in LUN 0, or to format the card outside the Quadra MacDrive that can format HFS....
No software seems to support this option.
An SD card while it is in LUN 3.

They explain how to check for the SD Card.

Question
I have a T61 ThinkPad. I could not get my SD card reader to read my SDHC card even though every offical SDHC driver was installed. I could only see my 4GB cards but not those over 4GB.
How do i enable SD card reader or Ricoh 4 in 1 card reader...

Assuming you have a built-in slot, is it feasible to install Windows 7 (Vista, or XP for that matter) onto a 32gig SD card? By install, I mean house your windows folder and any OS required folders and files on the card. Program Files and User directories...

But there are two concerns that you'll need to address if you want to boot and use Windows 7 off of an SD card issue I can foresee is the lack of preloaded drivers for the card reader.

I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and lovin' it. It was able to work out of the box with every device in my laptop (Sony VGN-G21VN) apart from the Ricoh R5C843 SD Card Reader.

You can use the SD card as a boot device but not sure why you are having problems....
I run Ubuntu with 80% used but not on the SD.
And the SD card reader is on the USB bus so I would guess the 4G is similar.
