While several questions have already been answered about removing an OS from a dual-booting machine, most refer to Windows 7 vs. Linux/Vista/XP. I have W2K installed on my older HDD (Drive C). Later on I bought a new HDD and installed XP's under W2K environment...

Even if you're manage to to repair the boot files complicated, I may just keep....
The boot loader was on C and XP was installed on D, now you want to remove the old C drive and expect Windows XP to boot from what is now the C drive.

I currently have a windows XP machine and two internal hard drives. I want to dual boot with Windows 7 on the second drive. I'll have the license for it in August. This will not be the release candidate.

As for dual and what you NEED ....
Makes keeping track of which HDD easier.
Use EasyBCD to set up the dual boot afterwards appears no matter which letter its been assigned.
That way you don't have to fear formatting it.

I came across this odd problem when putting together a PC from scratch. At first, I had 2 HDD drives connected: one SATA, one IDE (and an IDE DVD drive too, by the way).
It all worked like a charm: I got the master/slave setting right on the two IDE drives...

There I set /boot as the mountpoint for the small partition and put the rest of the Ubuntu....
Then ran the Ubuntu Desktop installation and chose manual partioning .
A new small first primary Ext2 partition for /boot with GParted did the trick.

I boot directly into UE (my primary - hdd 1) and can select XP from the UE boot menu - XP is located on my secondary hdd - they do not share partitions on the same ....

I downloaded an installer prog partition once on the 320Gb HDD....
I made some mistakes with the Ubuntu install and could not completely on a 4gb usb stick, and found the original HDD and usb drive.
Isntalling in dual boot mode.

The simplest way to put my problem is that in DOS, I could solve it with "sys C:\" then FDisk to make sure the drive I want is Boot, Active and System.
Some years ago, I set up a 1 TB SATA drive to dual boot XP Pro 32 bit and 64 bit. Lots of things changed...

See if you can access data there and backup
fscapture free download Disconnect 1 TB drive .
Later attach 1 TB drive as second HDD.
