Easiest thing - A nas network share that will just work in both or a USB pen drive! Apart from that, As Ubuntu can read from NTFS but Windows can't read from EXT2/4 etc .

Makes keeping track of which HDD easier.
Use EasyBCD to set up the dual boot afterwards appears no matter which letter its been assigned.
That way you don't have to fear formatting it.

There I set /boot as the mountpoint for the small partition and put the rest of the Ubuntu....
Then ran the Ubuntu Desktop installation and chose manual partioning .
A new small first primary Ext2 partition for /boot with GParted did the trick.

I boot directly into UE (my primary - hdd 1) and can select XP from the UE boot menu - XP is located on my secondary hdd - they do not share partitions on the same ....

Reconnect 640 GB drive to be first and only HDD.
See if you can access data there and backup fscapture free download Disconnect 1 TB drive .
Later attach 1 TB drive as second HDD.
