Hi All,
My system is getting to command prompt soon after the booting process. Once getting into command prompt, the cursor stops at DHCP /, I have to press escape to proceed further. I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Your computer is either set to boot from the network before the hard drive, or it can't see the hard drive....
I suggest going into your BIOS and disabling network boot.
It sounds like you are getting into the F12 network boot process.

Both options are easier alternatives to installing Windows and Linux to dual boot.

Booting will start only after 5-10 minutes.
If we go for BIOS, it will also take that much time.
At that time monitor showing intel pentium 4 logo.

I had the same kind of issues when my Palm TX was connected when the computer was rebooted .
Do you have USB devices connected to the computer? Try disconnecting them .

I am having the same issue after I updated the BIOS thru the ThinkAdvantage... .
Is it possible you have enable a POST other than the usual quick POST? Some BIOSs will allow a more detailed POST and that takes some time .

How fast is booting over PXE?. Is it conceivable to boot a linux installation? Does it take a long time? I have never really looked into it at all, but I was considering setting up a compiler farm and thought this might be interesting to try.

I couldn't do my job nearly so well without PXE booting -- all the other machines start with a memtest boot option, then....
I manage a cluster of about 20 physical machines that are located from anyone at the DC .
PXE booting is awesome.

Note, however, that your BIOS must support booting from USB devices and that the boot order should have USB precede HDD devices.

When Win 7 went RTM, I upgraded my laptop from XP. But to protect myself against the possibility of having data inaccessible, I got a new disk and put it in the laptop, and took the old (XP) disk and put it in a USB enclosure.
