I have a c drive and a d drive...the only thing on my d drive is My Documents...can I move this folder and all of its contents to my c drive and format the d drive so I can install Windows 7 on it and dual boot xp from c and windows 7 from d drive?

What are the best options that allow running a Linux distribution, such as Ubuntu inside Windows XP, ie within a window?
By "best" I mean quick startup time, low memory requirement, good graphical performance, easy access to the main (host) Window XP ...

I'm currently using virtualBox .
Sometimes keep the Windows in hibernate and do this.
And a USB Booting Linux .

I have an acer aspire laptop running Windows XP home.
I believe I have some virus on it, I'm not sure--I mostly just run linux in a VM on it so I wasn't too worried. I'm not sure if that virus caused this problem.
The laptop wasn't recognizing my USB ...

If you can boot....
Then you can format the drive and reinstall windows if you need to without worrying about losing anything.
Boot from the CD and copy off all the data you need.
I would suggest burning a live linux cd such as knoppix .

I would recommend Ubuntu if you want some-thing user friendly .
WUBI will install Ubuntu just like any other Windows you dual boot.
Your Windows data right inside the installer.

Alternatively, you could press the associated keyboard shortcut to reveal the boot....
Note, however, that your BIOS must support booting from USB devices and that the boot order should have USB precede HDD devices.

That means i have to install windows xp 1st or im not able to boot to windows 7, meaning that you not partition from Windows.

I made a working computer out of two old 2005 and 1999 computers, just for the sake of it. The computer works fine, and the first time I connected XP's hard drive it loaded fully. Then I connected 95's hard drive - the GUI throws a protection error...

Another alternative on a Windows machine....
Both options are easier alternatives to installing Windows and Linux to dual boot that will handle the partitioning and install the boot loader for you (I recommend Ubuntu ).

Also it's worth defragmenting your xp partition.
It's reasonably safe but you are best taking a backup first .
You might lose some of files in XP, so just back it up, otherwise, you should be fine.
