My indicator for my rear brakes came on a couple of weeks ago. I called a local BMW dealer, but not my regular dealer, to schedule an appointment. When I called, they asked my name, pulled up my profile, and told me the soonest they had was about a week...

His local dealer claimed the brakes are not covered.

Who does "scheduled maintenance" checkup visits on their cars routinely? I am not talking about timing belts needed to be replaced, or oil changes, tire changes etc. But the scheduled maintenance visits that are recommended by manufacturers based on time...

They charged me $500 for the maintenance for a one year old car.

I just wanted to get a sense of what people here do in terms of maintaining their cars. I truly believe that good maintenance is they key to long term usability. No surprise there, I think this has proven itself over and over.

Could you pls tell me the difference between Disc brakes and Drum brakes? All i know about them is that Disc brakes are better than Drum brakes.... but what's the reason behind it? does it have to do with bmw accessories

Make sure you clean the funnel with brake cleaner or similar and wipe with a clean rag after before using it to fill your brakes (if appropriate....
Brake fluid, however, must have zero contamination.
Out the funnel with rag/paper is fine.
