Just thought I'd share my recent experience with Tesco contents insurance.
We've had Tesco contents and building insurance for a few years now (got the Tesco Finest Policy)

If they have the contents insured for the same sum insured as the building, then they are wasting grounds for complaint if they contents are overinsured.

Insurance doesn't cover you for poor workmanship or faulty design, just like your car insurance wouldn't cover....
If you have recently purchased it may not be possible .
Insurance does not normally cover existing building defects.
