Burning Stove Wood

My wood burning stove has again acquired a coat of dusty rust. In the past, I have hit it with a wire brush and applied stove black. My wife objects to the smell that stove black gives off when you fire up the stove the first couple times after coating. Does anyone know of a rust proofing or finish that doesn't stink up the house? source

We use this Stove Glass Cleaner - it is brilliant and makes the glass crystal clear. DONT spray it on when the glas it hot as you will breath in the toxic fumes which are horrendous! source

No, you don't want to restrict smoke or your house will get smoky. The do have chimney tops with screens to prevent sparks from causing fires on the roof but you need to clean them often or they clog. source

This is because types of wood smell different when burning. If you had the same type of wood in both fires they would smell the same. source

Round here they frown upon giving out permits for garages with wood stoves. Something about storage of flammable liquids and the insurance companies, although I do know guys that have them. source
