Are digital cameras obsolete with phone cameras now becoming higher quality? Well been facing some criticism lately, I bought a canon 300 elph hs recently and I am really happy with the quality of the pictures and it shoots 1080p and the night scenes ...

No phone has a real camera, not by any stretch are they going to replace digital cameras! There are technophobes who want all functions in one device that phone cameras....

I meet with a group of photographers semi-regularly who are also collectors of other various things and the mind-set seems to be that digital cameras are to use and throw away (or sell) when done - but not interesting to collect.

I think a "collection" of digital cameras would certainly Digital, Original 1Ds, Digilux....
To some extent, it has: mine is in "museum" condition .
To wait a generation or two before people start to collect digital cameras.

I want to buy a decent camera with good zooming and performance. so, i shortlisted Fujifilm FinePix S4200 Digital Camera.
Please advice if its worth for money. Is it gud in still photography ? Is this much of zoom doesn't affect the life and durability...

The zoom does not affect....
It has been a good camera and provides the necessary features for the beginner and advanced photographer.
Each year they add a few more features.
Fujifilm has been building this basic camera for a number of years.
