Some of the most interesting and most desired canes and walking sticks are NOT straightened. As long as the handle and tip are in allignment they will serve just as well. Some work better left handed and some right handed.
Nothing wrong with straightening...

Carolyn, Hairy, what tool/tools did you use to shape up the handles. Both of your handles are very similar, and both of the canes are very nice, thanks for the pics.

Biggest headache was ....
I made a similar bandsawn blank, then mostly sanded to shape .
The shaft is a taper, from 2" down to 1" .
There is a 3/4" oak dowel inside the 3 pieces .
Finished shaping with handtools.

Reminds me that I have to walk at a slower pace and take my time, meaning I'm able to pace myself better the woman at customs smiled when she saw it!
So now my walking stick has become a vital part of my it helps pace me, and on a bad day....

Dunno if this is the right section really but i think it should go here sooo long story short for a few years now ive had to walk with a cane as i suffer for Meniere's which is pretty much vertigo with extras and i find walking with a stick helps me keep...
