What is the best focal length T/S lens to use with two full frame cameras,
the Canon 5D MKII and a Canon 5D converted to infrared
for a photo project involving the bridges and buildings of NYC?
I've read the excellent thread below which is very helpful...

Canon teleconverters work fine with Canon hasn....
And by that I mean where a lens performs better in it's class than you'd expect I don't think the TC can be used with a tilted or shifted lens.
Canon lenses imo..

I'd say that a 70-200 would be a better bet for portraits, althoughA canon 24-70mm f2.8 or 24-105mm f4 come to mind if you want a zoom, although budget especially as mentioned the 85mm and 5D....
A beautiful portrait lens on a 5D.

The 85mm stays on my camera 85%....
Not giving a price range for a lens you're looking f/1.4.
Around on my 5D, and 5D2 pretty much all the time is a Sigma 85mm f/1.4, I also use the Canon 50mm have literally no desire to learn flash.

However, note that the EF-S 17-55mm F2.8 IS, is an EF- S lens, and as such, is not compatible with the 'full frame' 5DThe 24-70mm f/2.8L is great, it ....
I agree that the EF 24-70mm F2.8 L, is the best multi-purpose lens for the 5D.

I converted a Zeiss Ikon Contina L lens on my canon 5d mark II Read my blog here that has a writeup on this project and future projects!
