I've broken a lifter and it took out the whole motor change them out now while everything else is apart.
I, I would switch out the lifters while you're at it.
I'm going to be installing my 228r cam in my 06 m6. I got 60,000mi. N decided to go ahead to change the lifters. What's at good set of lifters for a decent price? got screwed on taxes so my budget is a bit lower :\ damn uncle sam.

Hello, I put a new hydraulic cam and anti-pump up lifters in my 454. I was told to set the preload on the lifters at .020. The car runs well but the lifters are very noisy, is this common for these type of lifters? Is there a better way to adjust them...

A properly adjusted anti-pump up lifter operates somewhat like this other then changing....
lifters have less clearance between the plunger and lifter body, which allows them to retain oil retainer than regular hydraulic lifters.

I bought this car 1 month ago, remove camshafts, remove lifters, clean....
My engine has a noise (knocking) coming from the bottom left side of the engine .
My car has been ticking on cold starts, but only when I accelerate/rev, not at idle.. It does this for about 5-10 minutes and then stops. When I took it to the dealer, they made it seem like this was normal and said that they hadn't replaced the lifters...

DOD in the car, I SWORE up and down that my ticking was lifter tick due to a failed DOD lifterI'm having this issue at idle, goes away after a minute.

Posted 19 January 2012 - 03:07 PM Any chance it could be a small exhaust leak at the manifold? IIRC those might cause a loudish ticking noise and possibly vary with engine temp as the metal expands/contracts.

To the op you should definatly try a lighter weight oil to quite your lifter chatter used Lucas products from my quads, Dirt....
I figure I will see how long it will last .
Never had any lifter noises either.
