Who does "scheduled maintenance" checkup visits on their cars routinely? I am not talking about timing belts needed to be replaced, or oil changes, tire changes etc. But the scheduled maintenance visits that are recommended by manufacturers based on time...

They charged me $500 for the maintenance for a one year old car.
New car, I went to the dealer to do the first scheduled maintenance.

I just wanted to get a sense of what people here do in terms of maintaining their cars. I truly believe that good maintenance is they key to long term usability. No surprise there, I think this has proven itself over and over.

After redoing our budget I found out how much we spend washing and waxing our cars and was a bit surprised. I'm curious about other bogleheads. How much do you spend on a per car basis?

Clean the inside, vacuum etc myself.
Car maintenance can mean a lot a month at a nice drive through place.

You need to realize how often the average Audi or BMW owner keeps a car for, it is designed to either own the car till it....
Now owner ship.
So as time goes on the figures become worse.
The older a car gets, the more things wear out.

It does sound expensive, but its a lot more labor because you have to take the intake manifold off to reach the rear plugs and thats adds some time to the job I am assuming you have the V6, since the 4 banger doesn't have a distributer cap .
