When should the transmission fluid in a Toyota Matrix be changed? My car is at 63,000 miles. Will it be OK until 65,000 miles?

I was surprised to learned that our transmissions have life-time ATF fluid. How can it be, I'd imagine it would need change at around 90-100K miles. Are these transmissions reliable such that you dont need extra insurance in doing ATF changes?

^^^^ Are you saying the 88-89 only has one valve riding .
And aren't accessible without transmission disassembly.

+1 the manual transmission....
Nothing wrong with trying since they seriously fcuked up.
Sometimes they tend to warrant them getting you a new transmission.
I'd check and make sure the stealership put enough fluid in your transmission.
Who does "scheduled maintenance" checkup visits on their cars routinely? I am not talking about timing belts needed to be replaced, or oil changes, tire changes etc. But the scheduled maintenance visits that are recommended by manufacturers based on time...

When I was getting out, a sales guy caught up to me and said, that this scheduled maintenance....
They charged me $500 for the maintenance for a one year old car.

MT is also a lot more involving - greater interaction between car and driver...so if you like driving and like moving the car from standstill....
Will never look at AT unless there's a car you want that is simply not available as MT.

And the ramps will put you up high enough....
To Drop the transmission in my brother's trans am, we had to put the car up on blocks that were almostI wouldn't trust the basic jack to do a tire rotation, let alone any maintenance work.
