Enough that you could even switch career, then you probably have unique set of skills that is hard is the multitude of domains we get to experience over the course of our careers.

It is good to teach, it helps cement things I've learned recently in my mind at least... .
However, given the extreme shortage of competent developers I think this will happen anyway if a young developer shows promise .

Knowing how to program is quite a critical part in being a security researcher; you need to understand the guys who write the bugs :) It would be my opinion that it is quite valuable .

A good alternative career is commercial training (NOT academic teaching) - you learn a hell.
Tech careers require jigsaw.
Probably the hobby that aids a programming career the most: reading.
