Our family of four (two teenage daughters) will be in London for 5 days (8/19-24) for our first visit. I somewhat get lost trying to find decent and reasonably priced accommodation. We normally stay at mid-range hotels (Holiday Inn, Hilton, etc.) in US...

Tripadvisor.com/Travel-g186338-c162572/Londo… You may also a their spare rooms? If yes, then there are almost none of those in central London (I can think of only two).
And all are 125 GBP per night or less.

The main ho-ho routes give you....
London is if nothing else multi route.
Regards climate it should be T shirt weather in June, perhaps a light jacket or Afternoon T or something just wear what you feel comfortable in.
