Let me start off by saying on my stock '72 429, DE-smogged, i replaced the well known and to some, apauled 4 barrel Motor-craft 4300 with a 4 barrel single pump 80457 Holley and OMG! What a diference!
Now, i have to pull my oil pan sooner or ...

Recurve your distributor for best effect.
Well worth the effort.
Pre 72 timing sets don't.
Post 71 timing sets retard the cam timing for emissions purposes at the expense of performance.

Has anyone else had their timing chain go? and shouldn't it be covered under warranty? Mitsubishi are trying to charge me £1500 for a new timing chain because apparantly it is a "wear and tear" item, didn't think they were...

With them after 2 weeks of them having the car and they have said that the timing chain has stretched that they need to put a new timing chain on and the old tensioner when it is running.

Well in comparison....
The only vehicles I have seen give a pronounced issue due to timing chain.
To understand that it's the timing chain wearing (as stated before it's really not stretch), and so as a result it just fails anyways.

I have put the tensioner in the head and taken it out several times, and every time I have taken it out it was decompressed ....
By putting the piece that presses on the chain guide in a vice, and compressing the spring and internal.

I have to replace the timing chain and i am thinking about going to a dual chain setup. If it does last longer it might make sense to spend the extra money but it is only driven on the weekends.
Do you get more than 100,000 miles on the metal backed guides...
