Sand? Someone gave me a bag of black blasting crystals and said it can be used as aquarium sand if rinsed well. Is this true or BS? Appreciate any info. Thanks TJ

Sand is to put a garden hose in a 5gal bucket pour sand in turn water on.

I am rebuilding the top half of my pond, and building a new filter.
I need some ideas for a good filter, that is cheap, and easy to build.
The filter in the picture is last years model, it worked ok but not as good as I would like for it's size.
Any help...

How would PVC shavings work? i second birdmans choice a sand gravel would be cheep and very good....
A Sand/gravel filter would be best to make the filter less bulky.
Beyond that, for a DIY, most people will recommend the S/G filter .
