I dearly hope someone responds to this- I am in the same boat as you. I am starting to feel too old for typical "chick lit" but still crave the light, humorous, hopeful feel of the genre. One book I would highly recommend to you is Late Bloomer by Amy Cohen.

I don't, personally, but I wouldn't think it odd if some of my straight, female friends liked it. In matters of sexuality, the lines often get blurry.

Well, that depends on the purpose of the picture. If it's just to say "check out these hot babes", that's probably not OK. If, on the other hand, there's some larger purpose to it, that's probably fine.

Another good Chick Singer?
I guess I could recommend Paula Coles first album. The other never did anything to me - but the first one is very very decent. Anyway, I don't know what you like, but if you look for interesting chick voices, check out Portisheads lady at the mic. Or Ambeon - a project of dutch prog-metaller Arjen Lucassen - this is no metal, this is a more ambient, irish-folk, rock affair with an awesome 14-year-old singer. I know this sounds corny, but the girl's amazing, something between the Gathering's Anneke with a Sinead O'Connor influence.
