I am disabled and have been since 92. I was ordered to pay child support a few years back in the amount of 145 plus 15 for back pay. My SS and SSI combined is only 562 per month. I was married and was able to pay the ordered amount because of the wifes...

I was ordered to pay child the OP's SSDI will be used as income, his SSI cannot be counted since it is a form of public asssistance.

Just a question DD and I are discussing why her friend can not get a job...she is 16 and said that if she works, her mother's SSI (on disability due to mental issues?) will be taken away. Surely, this can't...

It sounds like she gets SSI.
SSDI does have a "work test" but the rules are a bit less stringent.
SSI is income based.
Now SSI and SSDI (sometimes just called disability) are two different things.

The reason I bring this up is because I see many people who boast about the fact that being deaf doesn't make someone disabled BUT they collect ssdi checks every month.
So what's the answer? Thoughts?

I honestly their ssi/ssdi checks are and some of what I read indicated that some deaf people are in fact capable certain people take advantage....
For child support because he didn't pay and it wound up getting taken out of his ssdi checks.

houses, etc.
People can't afford cars on SSDI? SSDI amounts vary,
just like Soc Sec retirement.
