Electric Wizard
From what I understand, it's SGs into a Boss FZ-2 into a Sound City head. They later went on to use Oranges and Matamps, but I'm pretty sure they recorded Dopethrone with Sound City heads. Why is this tone so great?

It's looks like one of these classical guitar amp tone controls (if you imagine tubes instead of OP amplifiers).
Some component values like 0.022 pF are surely wrong.

Presumably it's designed to be that way, with the internal tone controls bypassed so you can use solely external conditioning in the effects loop. It's not really something you could have by accident though.
Do you have a circuit diagram for the amp?,...

From that it's obvious that the tone that the tone controls (as part of V1b's circuit) are electrically isolated from the signal path controls aren't disabled when using....
OK, I've done some more googling - here's the circuit.

Yet another dumb question: This one involves the volume/tone relationship Lately, I've been using the volume knob as more of a tone control and I've noticed rolling back the volume on my guitar really seems to differentially cut the higher end frequencies...

You need a .022 cap on your volume knob pot... .
I'm sure someone else will give the technical details.
The tone, I'm just curious why the effect is only with the guitar volume and not with any of the pedls are designed to change tone.

I just picked up a JS1000 a few weeks ago.
I love the harmonics and the way the guitar just sings!
I don't like the tone of the pickups though
They are way too bright for my tastes!

These picks give the tone your - extremely warm and buttery with lots of sustain
PRS CE-24 with Air Norton and Tone Zone - Very edgy for my tastes.
FRED in the bridge and a PAF Pro in the neck, your rig is the problem .

Here is an interesting and informative series of videos evaluating various capacitor types in a guitar tone circuit. Check them out.

3.- I'd never use a digital modelling amp for analysing the tone of a guitar, in the overall tone of a guitar.
To the whole circuit.

They build adjustment into the tone circuit on

I am considering about the first mod on my Stock Historic LP. This guitar sounds loud and great unplugged and very resonant however I am hearing a blanket over it or muddiness as soon as I plug it in even at the tone maxed out and treble all the way up...

I had my amp EQd according to another guitar when I first got my R8 and the tone wasn't about the first mod on my Stock Historic LP.

Hi,
I've pretty much finished assembling my home made Les Paul today and have come across a problem when I got it plugged in and tested.
For both pickups, the tone control only has an effect from about 0 - 1 on the scale. The treble falls off the cliff...

Raise hell until than audio taper useless for guitar tone controls, especially in a '50s wiring configuration.
If anyone ever finds a linear tone pot in a factory guitar, it is defective, period.
