Is a server which returns 2.0.50727.4200 for System.Environment.Version going to support ASP.NET 3.5?
The webhost claims I should ignore the details in the control panel but I get 2.0.50727.4200 when checking the aforementioned system variable.

In your case it looks like claimed identity has a fragment identifier at the end which is irrelevant to the OpenID process.
You should always store the canonical form of the OpenID the user provided as input because of OpenID delegation .

Interest is not a number you fabricate and tack on to a claim.
