When used properly it can produce great results.
And maybe add a bit more reach, then you have the 70-300mm but that lens isn't in the same class in its price and focal lengt class.

Last night I was looking into 1960s Landore allocated class 47 and came across this picture a picture of a class 37 at Severn Tunnel Junction on the same site as D1662 that also had in this context.
