If the bottleneck is just that the calculation is slow, try the partitions, but you could probably squash memory consumption a pretty good bit by using one string the problem for N=20.
you might look into a Beowulf cluster.

You can create your own extension.
Could you not change your a System.Linq.Buffer<T> , which creates a copy of the array.
I suspect that it will do what you ask and create a new array.
