I have my Radions programmed in Natural Mode, day starts at 1pm, night starts at 1am. I have T-storms set at 50% and cloudiness at 50%, but have not seen anything. Dept offset at 60 feet and 100% intensity.
I have failed to see any storms or cloud cover...

I would go with #2 out rendering at 1px! Set the min/max and adjust between as necessary .

I think going cloud is not for such a small business of view - now it's in your hands.
At the end of the day cloud computing may end up being cheaper, but the trade off you make control over if you were doing it yourself.
