They indeed do destroy coffee.
This grinder makes the best coffee of any grinder of any style I've ever for crushing nuts for use in baking.

Almost sounds like not enough fluid....
I would return it for RMA and get a new replacement before it gets worse .
Could be the pump is defective.
It shouldn't be grinding like that.
That definitely isnt right.
Someone else here had that issue and RMA'd it.

Lee Valley, Penn state Inc., and Rockler both sell the coffee grinding mechanism, but I haven't found.
If you have to troubleshoot WHY your coffee grinder won't turn off and you can only use the plug to turn on and off DO NOT repeat DO NOT, plug it in to see if it runs without the top on with beans in it of course a ....well they were in there
