Inspired by Comics to watch the series, or inspired by the series to read the comics? I Couldnt think of a better way to phrase this but i think its a great question.
Personally, i LOVED the comics and have been reading them for years and i love the TV...

Both exist well in their own little "alternate universe" settings .
I knew of the comic and had seen a bit of it, but I really started of the comic, who loves the TV series.

So I wrote this short script (correct word?) to download the comic images from explosm.net comics because I somewhat-recently found out about it and I want to...put it on my iPhone...3G.

I would suggest using Scrapy for your page fetching....
But since you already got it working this way maybe you won't want to touch it until it breaks (page format changes) .
I suggest using BeautifulSoup to do the parsing, it would simplifly your code a lot .
