Inspired by Comics to watch the series, or inspired by the series to read the comics? I Couldnt think of a better way to phrase this but i think its a great question.
Personally, i LOVED the comics and have been reading them for years and i love the TV...

read the comics since issue 1, love it to bits, didnt really care at all for the first season the comics but buy the graphic novels instead, novels were read before series also like how the series isn't times you....

So I've just started reading comics in the last few months, I've already read the walking dead, Locke and key and Watchmen. I'm not too big into the whole superhero genre so could anyone recommend any comics that have more alternative and original concepts...

I'm not sure whether this should go here but... hey this forum is called "comic" after all. I don't read all that many but here are ones I peek at occasionally. Most are pretty cheesy and mainstream but that's half the fun.

How come Japanese manga is free to read, yet american comics(like marvel and DC) aren't?

Well nothing is free to read but the reason why manga reading is still up is that a lot recovering from the recession and they think twice about spending their money .
