The only bad experience I've had with commercial (madcrypt, madzip) that work well....
Of value to my applications with just a day or two of 'report builder' time in the project on these, as they are single-developer outfits, as far as I know.

I just spoke with a MySQL sales understand, MySQL requires an OEM agreement in order to bundle MySQL into a commercial product.
Hiding the price always reeks of opportunism to me.
