The XS doesn't have spot cameras are you comparing that are 9 vs 1? Cross type points allow the camera to focus quickly in low.
Neither the XS or XSi have video (however, they do have live view I believe).

For the most part, the greater the zoom range (10x, 12x etc) the more compromises... .
Firstly, you need to consider what is more important to you...a large range of zoom, the long end of the zoom or image quality .
