It is legal as long as its registered as a compensator (per NFA guidelines) and you pay the tax stamp.
It is legal to make a fake compensator.(no paperwork needed) To make a real compensator is a different story.

IMO you should think of compensation....
But at the next pay-review period, I would bring it up as part of the negotiation .
The certification itself was part of your compensation.
If the company paid for it, I wouldn't ask for more because of it .

Usually the image processing I do is highly time sensitive, so a complex algorithm like the one you're seeking wouldn't work .

Recoil from 10mm is way over rated - the 20 is a big pistol and the slide is an impressive, heavy hunk of metal .

If you're setting shutter, aperture, and ISO, then exposure comp is of no use .
Exposure compensation allows you to choose something besides "0" on the meter for when you're not shooting in manual.
