Ok, so is it possible (and if so, what would I need to purchase/or do) to use my home tower computer (with two 1TB drives tethered via USB) as a server of sorts, that I could log into from my laptop (and my wifes) and be able to access the TB drives?

Then go to other computers and open my computer -> tools with the netsend ....
Right click on the drives in question and share them on the network with the properties then sharing tabs.
Computer on the host computer.
