I've never encountered an SVN repository running on an external hard drive like this.
Why not map the drive as the same letter everywhere?

Usually when you have shared folder or a drive on a network location, it's browsable through Microsoft Windows Network. This is however painfully slow. Often when the computer or network location cannot be found, it takes ages before you get an error ...

Last time I bought a gaming laptop it got really, really hot whenever I played anything intense for more than an hour. After about 2.5 years it had various hardware failures and went to the scrap heap, probably as a result of the overheating.

Admittingly i dont know that much about laptops.
Performance wise yes.
Cant imagine HDD to SSD making a whole lot of difference in terms of overheating.. .
Processor, gpu, and battery would be the hottest.
