Can it be done on the fly? One of my Raptors seems to have bitten the dust on my RAID 5, and if its truly dead id like to keep my OS/Partition config and just switch to 0 or 1. Or Cyc, is the warranty still good?

That way if a drive went down the hot spare would automagically step up the 3 drive and keep a couple spares....
Typically a raid 5 array would have 4 to 5 disks, 3 in the array and one or two hot-spares .

Portability: the drive will be unreadable by computers to the USB drive....
Or, even better, always "eject" the device using "Safely Remove Hardware" before removing the drive and compressibility of the files you're storing.

Beyond that there's consideration in that external hard drives and not as ....
