I think knowing how computers work can be very beneficial for programming efficient applications. I am looking for a book that doesn't teach programming but teaches how computers work in a way that helps you make better decisions as a programmer?

As far as using the software from your PC I don't know as I have is Excel.
You should be able to use them on a Mac .
To the manufacturers website as the software and drivers are different than the PC version.
