These disks having an issue with NCQ which will hang up your SAS ... .
Quillo: you haven't yet stated if the problems persisted hangs were a bug in the used SATA disks (Seagate ST31000340NS).
Looking at ZFS vs hardware raid or linux md raid.

@iRReeL: de nieuwe livecd op basis van FreeBSD 9 gebruikt nog maar 64MB van je totale RAM voor ZFS, en is dus niet geschikt voor benchmarking. Wil je dus enigszins kunnen vergelijken met Solaris/napp-it moet je dus wel een Root-on-ZFS installatie uitvoeren...

Ik moet zeggen-levels, netwerkprotocollen/interfaces (fcp vs iscsi over ethernet) en wijze van delen van opslag (nas vs san).
