Whats the difference between the Intel Dual-Core(brand name) processor and the Core 2 Duo? It seems like clock speed is the only difference, but I want to make sure that is the case. It seems like anything over 2.6GHz is Core 2 Duo, and anything under...

The Core 2 Quad has four cores will see a tremendous improvement over a Core 2 Duo at the same clock speed.
The Core 2 Duo has two cores inside a single physical package.

I'll be buying a new computer in the next couple months and want to understand the dual/duo/two CPU issue :
Core Duo CPU (is this one "duo" CPU or two? Quad Core (four cpus?) Dual CPU (two cpus?) 2 CPUs (does this always mean two physical chips?) I can...

Hi guys,
Done a bit of searching but can't really find much.
Is it possible to upgrade the core duo cpu in a 4,1 to a Core 2 Duo CPU? If so what one is compatible?
Then I also read something along the lines that it is possible to go over the max 2gb of...

You can, as I am sure the Intel Core Duo CPU's are socketed, just like the Core 2 Duo's.

If I installed Windows 7 64-bit on an Intel core duo machine, will this cause any problems?
It's a 3 year-old computer, so I'm not sure if it will work.
Answer Snippets (Read the full thread at superuser):
You should also check that 64 bit....
If it's a Core Duo, it won't work, because the Core Duo is only a 32-bit processor.
Is it a Core 2 Duo or Core Duo?
If it's a Core 2 Duo it's fine.

I have a PC with a Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E4300 - I ran CPU-ID on it, and here is the results:

So yes it is capable.
Yes, all Core 2 Duo chips are 64-bit capable, that is includes the EM64T feature put a 64-bit OS on your system the Core 2 Duo chips will handle it properly.

I know when computers have two physical processors, you are supposed to upgrade the RAM in pairs. Is this the case with 2 cored processors as well such as the intel core 2 duo?

Officially should be no because your CPU is not relevant, however, I have not seen a Core 2 Duo system.

The first run of MacBook Pros have Core Duo processors, whereas all the ones after that have Core 2 Duos. Apple says Snow Leopard only requires an Intel processor, but will a first-gen MacBook Pro get enough of the improvements to be worth upgrading?

I have an early 2006 MacBook Pro which still is a Core.
Since this processor is not 64-bit, I can only use Grand Central Dispatch everything, and the bugs don't really bother me .

Has anyone had experience using prefetch instructions for the Core 2 Duo processor?
