Learning just another language is not much work. However, getting familiar with all the supporting libraries is veeeery expensive and actually you cannot go too far without that.
Would you consider a worthy career investment to learn java once you already...

Learning Java might not be too hard but learning the stack the typically comes of the hard lesions already....
We are a .Net shop but our parent company high gain to cost .

I know that in most cases when you buy a Dual-Core CPU for the same price you could get a Quad-Core, you end up getting 2 cores that are faster individually than the 4 cores individually in the Quad-Core CPU.

A quad core is usually better in most cases.
Again, it really depends.
It's hard to determine which is better or worse because you do not specify what you want to do and do stuff, a dual core will do just fine.

To be honest although I don't reckon hard core gaming is a bad thing (I certainly don't look down upon hard core gamers) I struggle to understand the mentality of hard core gamers.
