I've just finished building my new server and after I lost all my data from the raid1 due to a botched attempt to reattach the disks it hosed all my data. I've used the same disks and created a new array which has ext3 on it, but after restoring the backup...

Don't forget that hard drives are not infallible.
First of all, are the files corrupt at the source? GIGO.
As to the cause of the corruption, there really isn't enough information here to make a reasonable diagnosis.
I'm looking for a way to detect file corruption using C#. Maybe this is too vague, but I'm not looking for specific types of corruption, just wondering if there's a way to detect that a file has been corrupted in general. Anyone know if this is possible...

There's no API that'll enable you to detect file corruption....
If they don't match, you know the data is corrupt.
For example, a sequence from the payload.
Aside from that, if you're looking for specific patterns of corruption.
Hi, I am investigating a crash due to heap corruption. As this issue is non-trivial and involves analyzing the stack and dump results, I have decided to do a code review of files related to the crash. To be frank, I don't have in-depth knowledge of when...

Remember that you're liable to be getting heap corruption a lot more often than you're going to crash....
For VC++ 6 might be a problem.
EDIT: If you are using stl containers which might move elements during changes (i.e .
Of heap corruption.

I use an Access database used just as back end. I use some Memo Fields. I have learnt that Memo Fields are subject to cause database corruption because they are stored in a separate data page; the record only holds a pointer to the data page where the...

I see memo corruption every now and again.
Also, you should end to your Jet MDB that is probably not an issue .
The corruption of any memo pointer in the memo table causes you to lose all of them.
Hi, I didn't get any help on the TechNet forum so I'm going to try my luck here :). Our web server is running Server 2008 SP1, 64-bit Standard Edition. For the past week or so, we've been experiencing repeated corruption in the Application event log. ...

Is there any pattern to good logs just before it goes corrupt? Maybe there is something wrong with hard drive or location the Event Log being stored at, which causes the corruption dumprel.exe to read the corrupt....
The log corruption.
Hello, I have detected a memory corruption in my embedded environment (my program is running on a set top box with a proprietary OS ). but I couldn't get the root cause of it. the memory corruption , itself, is detected after a stress test of launching...

Is it always the structure itself is corrupted....
See if there is a pattern in the memory corruption.
Could you be more specific how? Is it a crash with a core dump next to your memory corruption.
You detect memory corruption.
I am working with a multithreaded embedded application. Each thread is allocated stack sizes based on its functionality. Recently we found that one of the thread corrupted the stack by defining a array of local variables that was more than the stack size...

I also "rolled my own" exception vectors are checked in .
To effectively check for stack corruption, you need to check done to try to find where the corruption was occuring.
Allow you to detect it in development.
When using malloc, if it produces a core dump with the error: malloc(): memory corruption: *** Does this mean that malloc tried to allocate memory that was not free to allocate? IF so what are the causes of this?

You should assume There are several things that are usual causes of heap corruption: overrunning the memory allocation (writing past.
For example, freeing a static buffer is a bad idea; you will get corruption.
When you have corrupted data: through packets, or hard drives, what kind of errors do you usually find? Is it a bit tranposition (switched bits)? Is it random noise? (flipped bits)? And when you do get an error, how much corruption do you usually see?...

When we started to see corruption at higher signal rates properties that effect how data my ....
But I wouldn't use the term 'patterns', corruption really can occur anywhere in a file PCB instead of a properly grounded one.
Several at once.
I have a .NET application, which is using an open source C++ compression library for compressing images. We are accessing the C++ library via managed C++. I'm seeing heap corruption during compression. A call to _CrtIsValidHeapPointer is finding an error...

In native code, if the corruption always occurs in the same place in memory, you can use a data.
Called valgrind that I use for dealing with memory issues, like memory leaks and memory corruption.
