Would be correct to avoid crack/keygen software because of the risk of malware, even if an updated antivirus doesn't detect anything? (ignoring all legal problems involved)

So if you personally know or trust the creator of the keygen, you can consider it as safe .
Every software that does not come "untouched" from an original "trusted" editor should be treated as suspicious .
Well, this question is quite subjective...

**It's just a crazy deep scratch... took the cover off and no sign of defect! Case closed - well sort of.... "WHO SCRATCHED MY MAC?"
Just noticed this crack on the bottom of my macbook pro 17 late 2011.

You can probably discern of its a crack by taking the bottom ....
Scratch or crack I cannot tell, but it is not normal.
Worst case scenario: they make you pay for a new bottom like new .
That part out of, resulting in a delayed crack.

Spend enought effort so that when people use it in an "illegal" way, they are aware frequent, cheap upgrades/updates, that way it will not profitable to crack..

A friend of mine has a DVD with a crack "its a crack straight through it, about two centimeters on each side of the middle circle", he says.

No it won't.
I think your friend is out of luck in this case.. .
Toothpaste will supposedly help a scratched disc by buffing out some of the surface scratches .

You can use some zip password....
Since Winzip v9, the encryption uses AES, which is secure .
A Google search will quickly turn something up.
As this is old software, it could be that it's using the old version of Winzip encryption - which is very crackable .
