Hi, I just started crocheting last week and I bought 100% Acrylic, worsted weight yarn.
And the yarn... This yarn is frustrating sometimes, as the strands split and got hooked when I pull it... Dang it makes the whole process much longer as I had to undo...

As to squeaking I haven't a clue and buy another type of yarn....
I've bought cotton and soft, with $5 for a small roll probably being the most expensive yarn I've had.
I wouldn't say it has anything to do with the quality of the yarn.

I don't know any other crocheters in my area, but the few knitters that I knew had this thing against acrylic yarn. It didn't matter what the weight, but they felt that it was an inferior quality of yarn and wouldn't touch it.
I don't have a lot of money...

That said, I prefer synthetic yarn many afghans, I use a lot of yarn....
On the other hand, acrylic yarn is made from petroleum, wich is a non renewable resource.
IMHO, there are a lot of yarn snobs among knitters and I've known som.
