If you are paying them off at once with your tax... .
If your main problem with your credit is that your cards are maxed out, or close to it...then your score will increase gradually as you pay them down.
It really depends on a lot of things.

One thing you might want to try is to look for any errors on your credit report. A large percentage have bad data that might negatively affect your score. I've heard up to 30%.
